Clean Language Questions in some of the most common Languages
The Clean Language Questions
David Grove developed his Clean Language questions in the 1980s as part of his work in trauma therapy. While working with both survivors of childhood abuse and war veterans, he noticed that clients would start to use metaphor the closer he would come to them reliving their traumatic experiences. He wondered if these metaphors were part of a healthy human psyche, and explored how he could honour them within the healing process.
This led to him experimenting with questions that had as little assumption in them as possible, thereby giving the client maximum space to share their experience without that experience being influenced by the therapist.
The questions are very effective in helping people express their experience, including body, mind and soul.
But what David Grove also uncovered was that these metaphors are ‘alive’, they are gateways into the innate healing capacity that we have as humans. As a coach, you can invite this to happen. This is the process that we can now explain from the lens of neuroscience, and that we teach in Soul-based Coaching.
