Slow down … to notice the right things at the right time

by | Oct 22, 2016

Dear you,

I had this intuitive longing this morning: let’s drive my daughter to school and then straight on to the forest, for my regular meeting with me and the divine through me. My sacred priestess time.

So there we were, driving on a road where we had the right of way. A traffic light not working. I was looking intently at the little girl (and her mum) who was waiting with her bike to cross. Making sure she wouldn’t go for it.

And all of a sudden I was looking a woman in the eyes, both of us completely surprised, both of us hitting the brakes hard. #BAMM

She came from the same angle as the little girl, only 20 meters (60 feet) further up the road.

I had not seen her. She had not seen me.

We all got out, my car door a bit stuck, my girl a bit shaken but okay. Practical stuff that took up my morning. But I’m shaken and okay.

As I had the right of way and was coming from the right side, I knew that it wasn’t my ‘fault’. The woman trembling with me knew that too. But that is not the point.

As I was thinking about what happened, I realised two things.

One is how deeply grateful I am for the abundance that we live in. The insurance will take care of this. We even have a replacement car for now. So many guardian angels with us, to step away with so little damage. My girl sitting nowhere near the point of impact. The love and care between the woman and myself. The way the system is setup to make that possible. All the friends who biked past and offered to help. Even the bright autumn sunshine that was warming me a bit while I was waiting for a long time in the cold morning for the car to be picked up.

My heart fills with warmth and love.

Accidents happen.

But what it really showed me is to SLOW DOWN.

I remember taking just a meter or so of the bus lane, because there was a long line at the traffic light waiting to go a different direction.

I remember thinking: ‘Yeah, of course everyone is in a hurry at this time of day’, as I drove through the orange light.

Two, three reminders that, had I listened to them, would have prevented this.

I was not in a hurry. (Getting my girl in the car on time, fed, teeth & hair brushed with separate brushes, lunch packed – that is when we usually have some hurrying to do. But once we are out the door, we are fine.)

I wouldn’t have had to take the car. We normally cycle. We could have cycled, but my brain told me it was too tiring with the forest and all. Honestly – at that moment, I was taking the easy way.

And when I have a plan, it’s so easy to get focussed, that I stop noticing the signs on the way.

So.. Slow down…

My lesson, offered to you.

In between actions. While acting. Check in with your breath, your body. How can you not hurry?

Our world has been in overdrive for too long. It’s not serving us.

It won’t interfere with us getting the right things done. On time. Because it’s only then we notice what the right things are. And when the right time is.

Wishing you that kind of slowing down.
