This is an excerpt from The Book of Yum, a story by Academy trainer Wren Bliss. Read it and open that field of Yum for yourself…
Rain.
The soft kind with the tiny droplets that almost doesn’t seem to fall. But are just floating in mid air ready to kiss your face.
The sudden waterfall, sky-opens-up-kind that makes you throw your clothes off and run naked into the garden dancing, laughing, screaming in delight.
Sitting outside in the lap of your grandmother, all snug under a pile of pillows and blankets. The garden chair dry, under the roof overhang. When summer rain is softly falling and landing just in front of your feet. Watching the rain together in silence.
The scent when the first raindrops hit a warm paved road.
The collective sigh of the earth and all her creatures when the rain finally arrives after the scorching sun has made everything green, turn golden for weeks on end.
The sound of rain. Especially on a tin roof.
The thrill of a thunderstorm rolling in. As if the world stops and nothing else matters than following the storm coming closer, counting the time between lightning and thunder.
There was a time when my love affair with rain made it so that it could not rain outside… without me going for a walk.
When I would always take the long way home, if it poured down. No umbrellas or rain coats or such nonsense.
Welcoming getting completely and utterly drenched.
Drinking it in with every fibre of my being.
As if the rain could soak through – not just my clothes – but all the way into the core of me.
Soothing, cleansing, softening and healing.
Tears of the sky carrying away my own tears.
Leaving a calm, fresh, quiet, space within me.
Rain, to me, is peace.
