As spring is approaching quickly here (this weekend’s snow melted in a heartbeat after a freaky cold spell), spring cleaning is also approaching. (Not that I am much of a cleaner at home :))
Our systems are starting to get ready to metaphorically open the windows and let the fresh air in and unsettle the dust. It brings vibrancy and new momentum. Not to mention space for new (parts of) life.
And it’s an excellent time to consider how you do ‘stopping things’.
Are you like me? Holding onto things even though you know deep down that they are no longer in alignment the way they are? I have struggled for years (literally!) holding onto relationships that just were not working. Because I wanted them to work so badly.
Or are you like a friend of mine, who learned early on in life if she got attached to something, it might get taken away – so why bother getting really invested? She stops at the first sign of possible resistance (which might not turn out to be resistance – but she never finds out if she does her habitual pattern).
Or like another dear friend, who’s mum discouraged her to even start things – because she wouldn’t be good enough to compete with the world’s best singer/cook/insert whatever you can think of…. She sometimes doesn’t even know now if she would like to try something, because that impulse kind of got lost along the way.
Of course there are many more ways that you can do’stopping things’ – relationships, jobs, hobbies, passions, habits, … (And it’s flip-side: starting things).
And each one of your clients (or future clients if you are an aspiring coach) has their own unique way of doing this.
Becoming curious about this is a great thing as a coach. Especially when you model/ work out their unique way. Stopping something, or starting something new is often part of a change people will want to make. And if you can help them find their unique way of making this desired change work – than you are off to help them strike gold.
In Soul-based Coaching, we don’t do models and archetypes or pre-defined patterns. We go for what this unique expression of the divine this human being is, and we support them in making the specific changes they want to make.
And no matter if this is for your clients, your future clients or for yourself: when this is the way it has been working for you ~ what would you like to have happen? And what would it be like if that were the case?
For me personally, all the work I have done has brought me to this place where I start to truly trust my instincts. Where I might not be happy something is ending, but at the same time feel the deep current of wisdom in me which tells me: ‘yes, this is the way forward’. Where I can take the steps without inner or outer drama. Where I trust more and more deeply that life is unfolding in a way that supports my deeper calling.
And I wish this for everyone. Including you.
